BURKINA FASO

Dan Fani means "woven loincloth of the fatherland". The Faso Dan Fani is a handwoven cotton African fabric, from Burkina Faso. It is the most representative fabric in this country.

The cotton, once harvested, is spun, and dyed by the women while the men weave it on their horizontal looms. They make strips of different widths, which are then assembled to form a loincloth.

It became the national symbol of Burkina Faso when former president Thomas Sankara became president in 1983.
